We aim to make Nectar as comfortable as possible for our guests and hope you will enjoy our improvements.
In 2012 we did very little and relaxed a lot! but we did:
add another hairdryer, for the downstairs bathroom
bought a new down duvet and cover for the master bedroom
renovated the laundry room (Margaret very happy!)
replaced the washbasin in the upstairs toilet
did some roof repairs - it rained quite a bit during our stay so it was a good time to test for leaks!
put new strips under some of the doors to keep out creepy-crawlies
renewed the toaster, kettle and added a juicing machine in the kitchen
In 2011 we did the following:
Renovated the upstairs bathroom with bamboo basin table, full-length mirror, and improved lighting
Renovated the upstairs toilet (ran out of time to finish it the way we wanted - watch this space!)
Placed a gorgeous yellowwood and sneezewood (popular with the 1820 settlers for bedsteads) headboard in the master bedroom
Placed another yellowwood headboard in the Green Bedroom
Improved the plugs in the sitting room (great for loading laptops and cell phones)
Reupholsterd all the outside chairs
Mozaiked the braai table (that was fun ! More to come ... )
In 2010 we made the following improvements:
WiFi Internet upgrade
Renovated the downstairs bathroom and placed a heater
Installed a new kitchen with gorgeous bamboo work surfaces
Added a large new fridge and separate freezer in the kitchen
Installed an electric oven and 6 cooker plates (4 ceramic and 2 gas)
Bought a water filter
Upgraded the electricity to avoid overloading
Installed 2 emergency buttons and placed LED lights for eventual power cuts
Put sun blinds on all the windows in the master bedroom
Bought new mattresses for the twin wood room upstairs and new duvets
Recovered the sofas and chair in the sitting room
Put 2 loose mattresses in the sitting room for use in the garden
Planted more trees along the edge of the garden bordering St Georges Ave (and luckily they seem to be happy there as they are growing well)
Over the last couple of years
Created a separate laundry with a 10kg self-weighing washing machine and a dryer
Installed a dishwasher in the kitchen
Added more reading lights in the sitting room and new bedside lights (we are still looking for better lighting - something for 2012!)
Provided extra blankets and hot-water bottles.
Installed a hairdryer and overhead mirror light in the upstairs bathroom
brought in more games, such as badminton and darts
Got wireless Internet on the property and 2 (rather old!) laptops
Bought a child high chair and collapsable cot
Since years
A hammock (best for use in the Knysna Loerie tree)
New blinds in the twin room
A constant stock of firewood at cost price
Cork flooring upstairs
A painting easle
A braai light
An inside clothes-drying rack (in the white cupboard on the landing)
Extra bedding and towels for 2 guests for the sofa beds in the sitting room
and, of course, an electric kettle, microwave, coffee machine, and more.
Thanks to all who gave their comments and advice!
We hope you will enjoy Nectar Cottage.
Nectar is a haven of peace and quiet in the winter months. Expect frequent whale and dolphin sightings from Natures Valley beach - just a stones throw from the house. All year round in the garden of Nectar Cottage you can enjoy the Knysna Loeries (they love the tree in the corner of the garden near the beach gate), the beady-eyed fork-tailed Drongos and, of course, the daily bushbuck who are so quiet and shy you need to keep your eye on the garden to spot them. Nightly visits of the bushpigs are also a treat. Just watch your food on the braai or terrace as they are relatively tame and cheeky!
