The Definitive Guide to Activities in the Area of Nature's Valley, Plettenberg Bay Area, South Africa

Arguably the most beautiful part of the Garden Route in South Africa, Nature's Valley is unique in that it lies nestled in the Tsitsikamma National Park coastal forest - the only residential area within a South African National Park. Southern Cape Bushbuck, Bushpigs, and wild birds can frequently be seen in the gardens of Nature's Valley village.

To the south of Nature's Valley is the Indian Ocean, east the Groot River lagoon, and north and west the Tsitsikamma Forest. The majestic Tsitsikamma, Kouga, Kammanassie and Groot Swart mountain ranges flank this coastal area. Nature's Valley is 37 Kilometres east of Plettenberg Bay and 45 kilometres west of Storms River Mouth, just off the picturesque R102 and is quite accessible (see Maps and Distances for visuals). The closest airports to Nature's Valley are Plettenberg Bay (37 km), George (120 km), and Port Elizabeth (200 km).

Immersed in nature, away from the din of daily life in the cities and towns, Nature's Valley still boasts a good restaurant and a well-stocked shop. A renowned local baker provides delicious carrot cake, milktarts and an array of sweet and savoury foods that can be collected or delivered (see Food for contact information).

Although there are no banking facilities in Nature's Valley (travelers cheques and major credit cards are widely accepted in South Africa) there is an ATM is at The Crags on the N2 near the Nature's Valley turn off. All the major banks can be found in nearby Plettenberg Bay and are open from 9am to 3:30pm on weekdays and from 9am until 11am on Saturdays. Plettenberg Bay also has a large Pick & Pay supermarket and a variety of shops.

Nature's Valley is a safe area for tourism. To be able to appreciate the abundance of activities in the area, a car is recommended. However, if you simply wish to absorb the beauty and tranquility of nature by walking, swimming and enjoying the spectacular beach and rocks, there are shuttle services available from Cape Town to Nature's Valley. See Transfers, Shuttles and Coaches for more information.
